I've been considering dropping out for the past few quarters. Seriously. The same stuff Chibi put in the Culinary rant are true of pretty much any major - you get to the final stretch, and you have to fight tooth and nail to get the classes you need, and when you finally get them, they're absurdly unreasonably scheduled.

Most of the later-program teachers honestly don't give a shit because they're too tied up in their own careers, and the ones that DO care are, for some reason or other, not allowed to teach as many classes as the insensitive bastard instructors.

And the resources, what a joke. "We have the programs. We have the technology." Fuck off, my 2.5 year old laptop has equal if not better specs than the "technology" you're running in most of your labs, and it's on an "inferior" operating system! And the programs, it's easier and more hassle-free to get access to those illegally than to deal with the glitchy protocols set up in the padlocked education versions available at school.

I like this school personally... Cost way too much but I enjoy actually going to this school

Yeah, housing here is a whole little hell in and of itself. Hence why we're all working on getting out of it ASAP!

I WENT to another college. This IS worse. I got to live, ON CAMPUS (not 1 mile away, not 3 miles away), had a MEAL PLAN (none of this starving-on-ramen bullshit; I had 2-3 BUFFET STYLE meals a day!) AND went to class full-time for around 10k a year (compared to the 20-30k it takes here, plus extra for food and supplies). The campus life at USF was infinitely better than it is here at Ai, but unfortunately their art department blows. And of course that has to be what I want a degree in >_<

Well given that USF had all that to give to you, you have to realize this school has alot more expensive stuff to pay for. Computers, maintenance for computers and building, culinary supplies, etc... your paying for the continuation of computer use and food supplies... USF dioesn't have a 1000 different expensive things to buy and maintain... also EVERY computer in the school has full Adobe... that alone is a good... at least 20-30k in itself... and they gotta keep updated with it so they can teach us in the newer products so we can actually do the job no matter what after we graduate... theres more to this school then USF basically and thats why it costs more... i understand your paying money but there is no need to be picky and what-not... learn to adapt with what your given... stop tryin to make orange juice with the provided lemons

You've clearly never been to USF.
While they don't have the art-specific programs that we keep woefully up-to-date here at Ai, they have at least 50 times the number of computers, all of which are kept up-to-date with the most recent versions of Microsoft office suites. In those sheer numbers, their technology costs are at least equal to ours. They also have a highly efficient computer management system that ensures that every student can use a computer no matter what, rather than just trusting a growing population to be fair with the time they allot to each other to use the severely limited machines.

The entire USF campus also sponsors significantly more campus-wide "free food" type events, even providing monthly movie screenings and popcorn and refreshments to students. We're lucky to get one free event every three quarters, and it certainly doesn't involve any movies.

On the topic of "campus", USF also has significantly higher upkeep needs, considering it's a minimum of 3 square miles, compared to Ai's measly 1/8 square mile and complete lack of any recreational center, student health center, fitness center, athletics, grounds, or separate library building (which, at USF, is 5 or more floors tall, compared to the pathetic single room we have available at Ai).

Further, USF has its own BUS SYSTEM. The cost of the buses, as well as the fuels, are considered "green" but certainly aren't negligible. You'd figure since Ai's "on campus" housing is 3 miles away (with the exception of the lucky 13 students who live in Essex - not that Richard will let that go on forever) that WE'D have some sort of built-in transportation, but no. USF, the cheaper, public, higher-up-keep campus, where the students LITERALLY live ON CAMPUS, has a bus system of its own. Oh, and not only that, the USF students also get to ride the city buses for free. Can Ai do that for us, even? No, that's one more way to scalp us.

Parking! At USF, you pay once, for a whole year, and it's cheaper than a single quarter at Ai. At Ai, you either pay for constant bus passes that cost $45 every month (even more expensive than parking itself!), or you get charged for parking that you don't use.

I can keep going, really. For the time being, however, I need to get back to my finals.

Keep in mind, I understand that as a public school, USF receives state and/or federal funding that Ai does not. But really, in light of the above, it cannot possibly be enough to justify the outrageous prices and charges and rip-offs that Ai serves to us on silver platters under the pretense of it being "specialized" and "up-to-date".
